Service Description

Instructor: Melissa Kay-Steves This 4-week silversmith course is designed for the beginner who has never done any metal work but will also serve as the perfect refresher for those who would like to improve their silversmith skills. Instructor Melissa Kay-Steves will guide you through the fundamental skills in metalsmithing including, sawing, piercing, forming, filing, sanding, soldering, polishing, stone setting and finishing. Students will learn how to properly use and get comfortable with bench tool while fabricating a cuff bracelet, stack rings, and either a pendant or earrings. They will be introduced to various forms of soldering and have plenty of time to practice how to make a perfect solder join. This is a wonderful class for the beginner wishing to develop a solid foundation of the tools and techniques of silversmithing. Kit Fee = $50 due to instructor the first day of class and includes copper and silver sheet metal, bezel wire and an assortment of wires, saw blades and cabochon gemstones as needed for project, use of all tools needed, solder, patina and torch setup. NOTE: Kit fees may rise and fall with the price of silver. *Due to limited bench space no refunds will be given for any workshop payment or deposit and we can only hold your seat upon full payment. **This class will serve as a prerequisite for our more advanced classes and for open bench time.

Cancellation Policy

CANCELLATION POLICY: • Students are not considered registered for a class/workshop until CJS receives full payment of tuition. Space is limited to 8 bench seats and therefore NO REFUNDS will be given for any workshop, payment or deposit, once a bench seat is booked. We understand that life happens. In the event that you have to cancel your attendance at one of our workshops or classes, we will hold your workshop fee for six months, to be applied to another workshop or class of your choice. If you do not show for a workshop, class or event and do not reach out to us, you will forfeit your payment. • Refunds are only given in the case that CJS must cancel a class/workshop. In the event that a class does not meet the required number of students, CJS reserves the right to cancel the class/workshop up to 3 business days before the class/workshop. Students will be refunded the amount of their tuition, or if you prefer, CJS will hold the tuition as credit for a period of six months from the date of cancellation. Students will be notified of cancellations by phone or email. • Students missing or dropping a class/workshop will not receive a refund, credits or make-up dates unless specified by the instructor. However, you may come in during 1 open studio (reservation and approval required) to finish your piece. • A fee of $30 will be charged for each returned check. ***A 2.9% convenience fee will be added to all transactions that pay with a credit card.
