Turn your unwanted scrap silver into new material like a pro as you learn to process old silver for use in a modern, negative space, shadowbox gemstone ring or pendant. Melt it, pour it, forge it, draw it and roll it… there is nothing more liberating than using materials you already have on hand, and reclaiming what you thought was unusable, to make new contemporary jewelry. CJS is excited to host award-winning Artist and Instructor Julie Sanford who will take your on a journey of self-sufficiency in your studio. In this comprehensive, metals workshop, you will learn how to season and prepare a crucible, sort and weigh scrap metal, and melt and pour ingots and rods that can be milled and drawn into new sheet and wire. Introductory lessons in alloying silver and gold will also be covered as well as tips to effortlessly integrate these new skills into your studio practice at home, making you more autonomous and less dependent on metal suppliers while at the same time creating a smaller environmental footprint. Get ready to propel your studio skills and learn how to reclaim your scrap and forge ahead! Materials for students to bring (Instructor will bring additional amounts for sale if needed). • At least 2 oz Scrap Silver--traditional sterling, fine silver or scrap metal clay material (can be a combination). • Scrap gold, old gold jewelry if available • Optional 2 DWT 24k fine gold to alloy for the bezel (alternately, we will make bezel with silver.) Kit Fee = $65 due to instructor at start of class. Kit Includes: Personal crucible and holder (to keep), casting flux, solders, project gemstone, printed instructions and reference materials. Use of ingot molds, graphic rods, scales, testers, draw plates and specialty tools. *Please see cancellation policy.

CANCELLATION POLICY: • Students are not considered registered for a class/workshop until CJS receives full payment of tuition. Space is limited to 10 bench seats and therefore NO REFUNDS will be given for any workshop, payment or deposit, once a bench seat is booked. We understand that life happens. In the event that you have to cancel your attendance at one of our workshops or classes, we will hold your workshop fee for six months, to be applied to another workshop or class of your choice. If you do not show for a workshop, class or event and do not reach out to us, you will forfeit your payment. • Refunds are only given in the case that CJS must cancel a class/workshop. In the event that a class does not meet the required number of students, CJS reserves the right to cancel the Convenience Fee: A 2.9% convenience fee is added to all online transactions.
