Join us for this innovative two-day workshop where you’ll explore a brand new, groundbreaking metal fusing technique. Learn how to use powdered metals as paint to create colorful hues and shades on steel surfaces. Experiment with a spectrum of colors, textures, and patterns, pushing the boundaries of traditional metalsmithing. During this workshop, we will cover: • All about powdered metals…where to buy them, the metals available in powdered form and formulations (pure powders, flakes, metal clay, etc.) • How to grind your own gold and any other metals that are not available in powdered form. • Understanding how the various powdered metals react when fused to steel. • How to mix powdered metals “paint” to create your own individual palette of colors and textures. • Painting powdered metals onto steel and fusing them to the surface. Heat and flow control. • How to mix various powdered metals to create alloys both in the “paint” or during the fusion process. • Various methods for fusing the powdered metals paint to achieve different effects. • Maximizing the contrast and appearance of powdered metals paint. • Protecting the surface from rust and corrosion. The class will be structured with a combination of instruction, demos, interactive discussion and hands-on work. It will include time for you to practice and apply the techniques covered with the instructor providing individual support and guidance throughout. Skill Level: Must have experience using acetylene torch and basic metalworking skills. Kit Fee=$75 payable to instructor at start of class Kit Includes: • Mild steel sheet—1 12"x 12" 20g • Powdered silver—10g lab grade powdered silver • 3 small stainless steel lab spoons for mixing powdered metal “paints” • Small condiment cups to mix powdered metals paint • Several small paint brushes to apply powdered metals paint *Shared: yellow ochre, copper, white bronze, rose bronze, smart bronze and white brass flakes Students must bring: • Saw blades, 3/0 and 4/0 Note: Nano Blade (PepeTools) or Sierra saw blades (Contenti) recommended • Any hand tools that you prefer to work with or email Melissa at charmtree@verizon.net to reserve a tool box for class. Optional but helpful: • Gold wire. At least one inch of 14g round gold wire (any karat). You will use this to grind gold powder for fusing. While this is optional, you should be aware that nothing is more beautiful than fused gold powder.(available at Rio Grande) *Please see cancellation policy

CANCELLATION POLICY: • Students are not considered registered for a class/workshop until CJS receives full payment of tuition. Space is limited to 10 bench seats and therefore NO REFUNDS will be given for any workshop, payment or deposit, once a bench seat is booked. We understand that life happens. In the event that you have to cancel your attendance at one of our workshops or classes, we will hold your workshop fee for six months, to be applied to another workshop or class of your choice. If you do not show for a workshop, class or event and do not reach out to us, you will forfeit your payment. • Refunds are only given in the case that CJS must cancel a class/workshop. In the event that a class does not meet the required number of students, CJS reserves the right to cancel the Convenience Fee: A 2.9% convenience fee is added to all online transactions.
