Service Description

Join Helen Driggs fro her most popular intensive, technique class! Make the Most of Your Flex Shaft will give you a hands-on overview of what you can do with your flex shaft, how to troubleshoot it plus how to choose the appropriate attachments for creating texture and various finishes and the know-how for choosing polishing attachments and compounds. Students will learn how to properly sand, pre-polish and mirror polish jewelry metal with a hand-hammered surface texture – one of the most difficult polishing challenges there is. Learn how to create custom sanding sticks, how to properly file, scrape and burnish metal edges, and then use Tripoli and rouge polishing compounds with textile attachments to bring a shine to your metal. By the end of the day, you’ll know what to use and when, for many different jewelry making processes and materials. You’ll get a useful kit, tons of knowledge, and the confidence to fearlessly use your flex shaft with confidence. Bring your in-progress work and pieces you want finish and/or polish to class so you can wear them home. Skill Level: All Kit Fee: $70 Kit Includes: practice materials plus a set of specific rotary attachments needed to do the exercises and chosen for their usefulness beyond the scope of the workshop. The practice materials include sheet metal and tubing, a chopstick, metal lubricant, wood and laminate, wire, grommets, plexiglass and various polymers like game pieces and buttons, ceramic shards, glass, and stone. The rotary attachment tools include polishing tips and compound, sanding mandrels and discs, and a utility drill bit.
