Service Description
Now that you have mastered the basics of metal clay and understand simple stone setting, shrinkage, texturing and refining, it's time to take your skills a step further. Are you ready to create thought-provoking smile-inducing pieces of wearable sculpture that reflect your artistic vision? Join Michael Marx for a 3-day workshop that explores methods of sculpting and designing that go beyond 2-dimensional work and basic stone setting. Students will design and create a piece that evokes a thought, a memory, an emotion, or one that tells a story. Starting with a student sketch or concept, we will spend the first part of day one, breaking the design down into its essential components and stone setting options, to create a “build list” from which to work from. Michael will work with each student individually to help them plan their construction. Michael will hold nothing back, providing demonstrations from all of his wildly popular techniques including; face-making (human or creatures), layering, sculpting, organic bail designs, methods that allow for dimensional attachment, embellishments, fire-in-place opals, stone setting pre and post-firing, his new tab setting technique, and so much more! Once enrolled students will be sent "homework" to prepare and information on how to schedule one Zoom meeting with Michael in the weeks leading up to class. This demo-heavy master class will launch you into design mode and encourage you to find your inner metal clay voice. It’s time to push the roller aside and start creating 3-dimensional work that reflects your artistic vision. We will break for 30-45 min. lunch. Skill Level: Advanced beginner and beyond *This class is designed for students that have strong metal clay skills. Kit Fee: $TBD includes textures, finishing materials, consumables and tools. (DOES NOT INCLUDE CLAY) Students MUST bring: 50+ grams of silver clay (any type) and any stones or materials they would like to incorporate into their designs.
